#BritishBloggerSelection: An Alternative Halloween

It is that time of year again when people dress up as creepy things, there are horror movies on every channel and I, by rule, find it difficult to sleep for the following week - yes, I scare way too easily! I would like to be able to say that I don't celebrate Halloween because I am a Christian - of course, I am a Christian but I cannot say I don't celebrate it. I try not to get too caught up in the festivities but you can't say the happiness and nice memories that dressing up and free sweets brings to children is a bad thing and I can't help myself but go out in the evening with my family to wander around the village and just be a bit nosey and look at everyone dressed up. I think that there is something great in finding alternatives to Trick or Treating such as little alternative parties where you can still dress up and stuff your face but it is not the real deal. But, in general, I do struggle at this time of year to kind of stop myself from going along with society and just be strong in faith.
So, when I saw the theme for the #BritishBloggerSelection this week was Halloween I really did not know what I would write. I then decided that I would try to create a little alternative costume that capture the fun of dressing up without being too morbid.

Geisha

Just teem this outfit with some white face paint, a neat little up do' and maybe a parasol and you are set to wow at an office party or anywhere else you may be going - maybe you are only going to Tesco but want to create an impression, I don't know!

In the spirit of sharing with lovely people I have discovered an old embarrassing picture of myself from when I dressed up like a Geisha for my GCSE art which I am going to post. I would love to see your outfits if you dressed up in an alternative way this evening - you can tweet me at @TheEmeraldDove or use the hash tag #AlternativeOutfit

I hope you had a lovely day and my post has not depressed you! I also just want to say that I feel this is quite a risky post as I am really opening up to you all with my beliefs and going against the tide so I would love to hear your thoughts on Halloween but please keep in mind that I am sharing my faith on the internet which is a difficult thing to do. Also if you want to know more about my faith you could comment below as I am considering posting my testimony but you can also tweet me or message me at the email address on the side bar.
I hope to hear from you all soon!

#BritishBloggerSelection

I recently got an email from the lovely Ellie who runs a blog called Little Vintage Camera inviting me to be part of the #BritishBloggerSelection to which I was very excited to accept. Basically it is a kind of blogger network and you get emailed a theme each week to write about and you can write about whatever you want under that theme. So, you can all get involved by going over to Ellie's blog now and sharing your blog name, URL and first and last names.
I am really excited about this and would love for you all to be involved!

October Fashion Wishlist

You may be able to tell that I have a bit of a thing for autumn clothing - is there anything greater than jewel tone knits, dark wash mottled jeans and a good old pair of brogues? I have found that the high street have been spot on recently and have everything that I love in stock which has made me rather gleeful. And, I must admit, after watching the new series of Downton recently I have fallen in love with what Mary wears and it has encouraged me to extend my collection of clothing in colours such as teal, burgundy, emerald and navy which I think look so sophisticated and beautiful for autumn as well as trying out new textures.
So, I have put together the things I have seen around this month which I absolutely love.
Also, I am sorry I haven't been the best blogger recently - I have an awful lot of college work to get done which has monopolized, quite rightly, much of my time.

I absolutely adore this coat from Topshop as it is so classic but the 'boyfriend' shape is on trend and who doesn't love a bit of masculine tailoring? Also this coat is surprisingly affordable and also comes in blue and plum but I thought black would be most wearable. The only trouble is that I had a look at one in the shop today and it was covered in hairs so I guess if it easily picks up hairs then it is not best to be living in a home with two dogs.

This gorgeous velvet playsuit just encapsulates all that I love in clothing. It is vintage, it has cute buttons, it clinches in at the waist and has a peter pan collar. I am sold. I think I saw this in a post by an amazing blogger, whose blog name I have forgotten, who went to an event wearing this and I commenting asking where she got it but alas I have found it!

I love this jumper an awful lot! The colour is beautiful and what's more is that the neckline looks effortlessly chic so you could just throw it on with some jeans and still look fashionable - ever a plus when you have to wake up at 6:30am and head out into the rain.

I think I may have included this in a previous wishlist but it was to beautiful to miss out. I love the embroidered detail and the red with the black. It is just perfect and long sleeved which is a major plus for me as I am not so keen on getting my arms out.

These are just the perfect mottled skinny jeans, in my opinion. They would look gorgeous with a grey knit and a pair of light tan brogues. And they on sale!

When I saw this shirt in New Look I really liked it and the colour looks so much better in real life but the shape is lovely too and would look great tucked into high waisted jeans or a skirt.

I love the darker colour of these mottled skinny jeans as I tend to wear quite a lot of darker clothing I think these would look better with it and Topshop jeans are always so soft and comfy.

I hope you enjoyed this post and be sure to let me know which items you preferred.

October Non-fashion Wishlist

It is that time of year when cute little gifts pop up in my favourite stores and my attention is swayed from clothing to things such as collections of lip balm that I know I will never use but are shaped like robins and other woodland creatures thus making them impossible to resist. So, I have compiled a few things which have caught my eye into a wishlist - prepare yourself for rather a few cushions!

here (this one is my definite favourite!)

I hope you liked this post. I will probably be posting a fashion wishlist soon and thereafter some Christmas gift guides. I also have a few hauls coming up so keep your eyes peeled!

I Went To Downton Abbey!

The time is upon us where I share the pictures of the main part of my Cotswolds coach trip which I took during the summer and you can see some of the other posts here, here and here (it's like a lucky dip of posts!). It was rather exciting to go to Dowton - actually known as Highclere Castle - and they had gorgeous grounds and an amazing gift shop as well as an obviously beautiful house. Although we weren't allowed to take pictures within the house I got my fill of pictures of the outside.

I hope you enjoyed this post and I would love to hear from you over on Twitter - come and say hi to me at @TheEmeraldDove

New Look Sale Wishlist

As you may be able to tell I am a rather big fan of New Look and as they are now having a 50% sale I am rather more in love with them than ever before. So, I have put together a wishlist of all my best loved items which are on sale - some at crazy low prices! I would love for you to comment and tell me which items you are the nicest as I am thinking of getting a few things and would love your advice. You can also tweet me links on Twitter - my username is @TheEmeraldDove.

I rather love this jacket as it is quite 'Kate Middleton casual'. I can imagine her wearing it with a white blouse and blue jeans.

Burgundy is my statement for autumn and I love to team it with black so, of course, I fell for this pretty skirt.

I love the shape of this boxy blouse and the collar would look great worn over a jumper.

I love the print of these tapestry brogues - they are just perfect to wear with woolly tights and a little skater dress.

I love the print of this skirt and the neutral colours mean it can be teamed with so many things - truly a wardrobe investment!

This elegant clutch bag would be the perfect LBD companion

I saw this dress in store a while ago and I fell for the colour - isn't it gorgeous?

I love the print of this top and the monochrome colours are very on trend

I love this pretty top - it reminds me of something Daisy from The Great Gatsby would wear

I love the colour of these loafers - they are so autumnal and lovely

These shorts are probably one of my favourite items - I love the print of them so much

This black dress would be the perfect option for the upcoming festive parties and would look great teamed with a red clutch

I have been on the look out for a grey leather jacket and this one seems perfect

I hope you enjoyed this post and be sure to let me know which item is your favourite!

Also I apologise if the items are out of stock by the time I post this - they are selling like hot cakes!
